A sad note to pass along as we start out the NFL talk for the day. Dan Marino’s father has lost his battle with cancer. In his Hall of Fame Speech, Marino credited his father with teaching him how to throw a football. Dan Marino Sr. was 71 years old. Sparty and Friends send their condolences to Marino and his family .
Some of the teams have links that have “breaking news” attached to them….It appears that we are looking at two good games early with Atlanta @ New Orleans and especially Philadelphia @ WCNYFBG. The other early action sees Jacksonville @ Chicago, Minnesota @ the Winless Wonders, Houston @ Green Bay, Cleveland (thinking of re-signing Schottenheimer) @ Tennessee, Cincy @ Indy.
Afternoon game highlight…one…singular…Dallas @ Pittsburgh. Other games include Kansas City @ Denver (a Dnever win effectively ends San Diego’ season), Miami @ Buffalo (the Bills lose home field advantage because the game is in a dome in Toronto), The Bretts (Laverneus Coles is mad at #4) face Mike Singletary’s team, New England @ Seattle, and St. Louis @ The Desert.
Sunday Night Football is watchable…but just barely. Washington @ Baltimore.

I am a writer for S&F and should tell you that the story was not made up for publicity at all. Sparty had a source that was close to MSU and had the information and said it was solid. Don’t say it was just made up. We have grown a reputation for getting SEC coaching rumors correct in the past few weeks by being first on the Lane Kiffin to UT and the Tommy Tubberville stepping down from Auburn stories. That’s why people believed us.
I should also point out to you that there is no proof that our story is incorrect. MSU has not named their coach and college coaches have gone when they said they wouldn’t before. Let’s not forget that members of the Boise media said that they were hearing the same story at the same time including a 4 year 9 million dollar contract that our source did not have. Perhaps people were being fed incorrect information.
The fact that our story forced Petersen to come out and deny it should tell you something. He has been connected to many coaching vacancies as of late and has not felt the need to denounce them, yet he did feel the need when it came from our blog. Logic would dictate that there was either something to the story or that our blog is somehow extremely mainstream and reliable. Since I doubt that the latter is the case, I would say that there was a foundation for the story.
Many outlets reported that Petersen met with the MSU athletic director in Denver this week. We all know the two worked together at Oregon. You don’t think he might rather take a job in the SEC where an undefeated record can actually earn a spot in the national title game unlike at Boise where it likely gets you the Ponsietta Bowl this year? That’s not a possibility? What about the fact that he may want a challenge? It’s not like the WAC puts up a fight unless somebody has Colt Brennan.
In short, you are wrong and we want an apology. Actually, you’re just wrong. Scratch the apology. We’re better than that. Did I say better than that? I meant better than you. My bad. I mean, just look at all the hits we got, right? Isn’t that what it’s all about?

sparty–The G’ints couldn’t keep Westbrook out of the game…then their penalties and sloppiness just did them in…not sure what was wrong with them…I guess you can be happy they at least got another crappy game out of their system…they’re still the best team (ugh).

Just logging in after a really bad day. Unlike Dan Marino, this Dan has an 86 year old father who is getting really old physically to deal with.
Also the Jets lost, Giants lost, bad fucking day. To make it worse, NE and Miami and Pitt won. Jets are done with the bye and will have to play well in their last 3 to win the division. The only good thing is they control their destiny since if they beat NE and Buffalo, they win the division with the best record in the division.
