In order to get everyone amped for the games this Saturday, Sparty asked me to to write up a preview for all four squads making their way to Indy. I am sick of the standard packages that you can get with your local rag, and on other blogs, so I’ve put a little twist on things. You’re on the clock Butler.

Record: 32-4

Biggest Star: Gordon Hayward

Notable Alumni: Harry New (Former Postmaster General), Arthur Cope, Bobby Plump (Inspiration for Jimmy Chitwood)

Biggest Fan: The United States of America.

Most Notable Moment in History: Voted National Champs in 1929.

Why They Hate Kentucky: UK knocked them out of the 1962 tournament

Annoying Internet Nickname: Butt-ler

How they match up with their opponent’s fans: Not only is this the underdog team that the majority of America will be rooting for come Saturday, but they are smack in the middle of their hometown for this one. (Michigan State isn’t too far though)

I don’t know much about Butler, or their fans, but I imagine they’re all like characters from the movie Hooisers. All the people I’ve met from Indiana are like that. Likewise, every town and city I’ve been to in the Hooiser state have similar characters.  And not coincidentally, the movie’s hero, Jimmy Chitwood, was inspired by real life Bobby Plump.

Anyways, the majority of Lucas Oil Stadium will be filled with what is probably the largest bandwagon the sporting world has seen in quite some time.  No word on whether this group of misfits has saved the city of Indianapolis this year.
